How to Start A Party

They always say 'first impressions count' so here are a few party tips and ideas on how to start a party. (Plus, I will let you know of my simple, secret weapon in keeping the children under control!!!)

How to start a party depends on many individual factors like the age group of the party, where it is being held and what type of party you are having. But here are few party tips and ideas that I feel goes toward helping your party gets off to the best possible start.

As the guests invariably arrive at different times with some turning up a little early, some on time & some a little late there is not much point in planning anything major for the first 15 minutes.

I have always thought it a nice touch when the guests are greeted by the birthday child and parents at the door so if you have everything organised at this point and you can spare yourself for the first few moments it might be something you would like to consider.

Some of the little guests could be finding the idea of going to a party somewhat traumatic, especially if they are not familiar with the party venue. So to see a friendly face will be very reassuring for them!

Then, once inside as they meet up with friends, they should start to feel better. At this point they can begin to get very excited usually resulting in a game of chase. This, I find is ok for the opening few seconds, but so you don't lose control of the party at this very early stage and before you have any accidents to deal with it is always a good idea to have something to occupy them with.

For toddlers this is not too much of a problem you could have some little toys, jigsaw puzzles, books, an activity centre or if you really want to push the boat out you could invest in a little trampoline or bouncy castle to keep them happy.

For children aged 4/5 years and up how to start a party can be a little more tricky. They will need something a little extra to satisfy them. You could hire a bouncy castle if you have enough space and it fits within your budget. Maybe you could set up a little craft table and have them make a party hat or mask. You may be able to tempt them with some party dances.

What I find works a treat for me is quite simply 'plastic spinning plates'.

If I am running the 'Complete Party' or if I am there at the beginning of a party waiting for everyone to arrive, it is an essential piece of equipment. I always have enough spinning plates so each child can play with one...and a few more for the adults!

With the music playing in the background, I spin the plates and pass them out to the kids encouraging them to have a go. They never fail me!!! The KIDS love them!!! They're great FUN!!! And more importantly YOU KEEP CONTROL OF THE PARTY!!!

If you would like to use the 'spinning plates' for your party send me an email and I will let you know how you can purchase the 'plates' complete with sticks & instructions on how to use. They are priced at £2 plus p&p.

Hopefully there are enough ideas here for you to keep them from running wild for the opening 15 minutes.
